HISTORY OF WESTERN EDUCATION IN ZARIA CITY 1960 - 1976

Education is the backbone of a society’s development and focus. Zaria city was the first place in the heart of the north to have contact with missionary/western education. The paper discusses the history of western education in Zaria city from 1960-1976. It looked at establishment of schools (primary and secondary), as well as their developments. So also are the enrollment, transition and graduation levels of pupils and students as the case may be. However schools established before 1960 were documented. The paper also discussed some of the reasons for the establishment of these schools, and also how they metamorphosis over time. The paper also documented the names of schools and years of establishment as well as location situated. The paper concluded with examining the state of western education in Zaria city by 1976. Historical approach and methodology was adopted in the study.
