Status of Government Involvement in Adult Education in Nigeria and Its’ Effect on Manpower Production

Abstract

The relevance of human resources in the development of any nation cannot be over stressed. Manpower production is very ssential if a nation is to harness its resources for achievement of the required growth and improvement of living standard of the populace. The paper examines the role of adult education in Nigeria manpower development. It also identified some adult ducation programme that aid development of Nigeria’s manpower. Essentially, the concept of human resources development, proceeds from the person; the human being; in other words, the individual in full exercise of his or her human faculties and responsibilities. The chief dictate of human development is investment in people. Supporting this view, investment in education seems, in most cases, to be above the returns to alternative investment opportunities and he advised that priority should be given to investment in men versus investment in machines. Such programme include: Adult Basic Education, Workers Education,
Vocational Education, Extension Education, among others. The paper made some recommendation on how adult education can help in increasing manpower production in Nigeria.
