OTHER SIDE OF DEMOCRATISATION: INTERNAL CONFLICTS AND DEMOCRATIC TRANSITION

Abstract

This work focuses on democratization and how it affects internal conict. The paper uses content
analysis and discourse method to explore and establish the link between the democratic process and
conict of interest associated with politics. The paper argues that democratization plays a vital role in
creating a conict of interest and strengthening civil disorder in the transitional process of state
consolidation of democracy. This paper refers to various conict zones around the world and focuses its
analysis to Nigeria's democratisation process. It posits that internal conicts are the indispensable
product of democratization, particular in developing societies. However, there are rules of engagement
that regulate the process towards endearing and a stable political system and democratic consolidation.
Thus, all actors must adhere strictly to the rules of engagement for effective democratization.
