Abstract

The attainment of independent in Nigeria in I960 was to stir up economic, social, political and cultural
development for the patriotic Nigerians to have a better condition of living. This has become a mirage as a
result of frequent political and social instability in the country. This paper focuses on the remote causes
of insecurity in the country as it affects national development. The paper identied some conicts that
have taken place in the country, with comparison of what is happening in other countries of the world.
The paper recommends that the song of peace must be sung at every gathering in a Nigeria. Government
must leave up to its responsibilities in order to re-build the courage and thrust of Nigerian in building a
strong, stable, self-reliance country in its transformation agenda that will guarantee speedy
development of the country economically, socially, politically, culturally and administratively.
