THE PATHOLOGY OF ELECTORAL VIOLENCE IN NIGERIA

Abstract

In Nigeria, hardly has any election taken place without violence, hence making Nigeria's election a tale of violent political struggle, a keen to what karl Max describe as “the bitter political struggle between the bourgeois ruling class and the proletariat working class for control of limited resources”. With above in mind these articles will x-ray the pathology of electoral violence in Nigeria by capturing the antecedent of violence in Nigeria, causative factors, effect and solution. This work adopts the qualitative methodology by extrapolating information through various secondary sources, this paper concludes that the most valuable asset to control election violence is the credibility of the Election Commission and the electoral process, which leads to increased legitimacy of the government and, provides less chances of political turmoil.
