ASSESSMENT OF INTERPERSONAL CONFLICT BETWEEN NURSES AND PHYSICIANS AND THE EFFFECT ON PATIENT-CARE AT IBRAHIM BADAMASI BABANGIDA SPECIALIST HOSPITAL, MINNA, NIGERIA

Abstract

The research examined conflict between nurses and physicians and the effect on patient care. The study employed survey research design with the use of questionnaire and in-depth interviews for the purpose of collecting primary data. A total of 209 questionnaires were administered to nurses, physicians and patient relatives. Respondentsalso included Corp Member Doctors, Houseman Doctors, Midwives, Nursing attachment students as a basic standard. Interviews were carried out with selected respondents for collection of qualitative data. A non-probability sampling technique was also carried out in the two units which included five nurses, five physicians, and five patient relatives. The primary data collected from field studies were qualitative and quantitative data, data analysis employed the use of descriptive data analysis including tables, chats and simple illustrations. The study revealed educational attainment as a major cause of conflict at 60.7%, and delay in patient care delivery as a major effect on patient care at 70.6%.
