China's Post-Cold War Foreign Policy towards Africa: A Diplomatic Clash

Abstract

This paper historically examines China's foreign policy towards Africa in the aftermath of the cold war and the threats it poses to other global players. The paper adopted qualitative methods and utilized both primary and secondary data which includes; textbooks, journals, newspapers, online news and interview respectively. The primary data used in this research is personal observation. The main finding of this paper was that China's foreign policy after the cold war was African market-friendly which is geared towards actualizing Chinese economic interest in resource-rich Africa. This however did not go well with other global players like the United States which also targets Africa as their potential market. It shows that Chinese successful economic diplomacy in Africa is detrimental to the United States' economic interest in the continent. It is thus the recommendations of this paper that African countries must strike a balance between these diplomatic clashes to give a wider room for choices to accelerate the continent's economic development.
