IMPACT OF REMUNERATION ON CORRUPT PRACTICES IN THE PUBLIC SERVICE IN NIGERIA.

Abstract

Corruption undermines a country's regulatory framework and the efficiency of its public institutions, as the pursuit of immediate individual profits distorts public decision-making. This paper attempts to examine remuneration as a panacea to curb corruption in public service delivery. The paper identified that poor remuneration could lead to a violation of the operating rules of administration in the public service, which severely undermines the state statutory responsibility to its citizens and thus
promote lack of effective and efficient public services delivery. The paper concludes that there is an inverse relationship between remuneration and corruption in public service in Nigeria. Data for this study was sourced through content analysis.
