Abstract

The decay in the society has affected the values and moral character of Nigerian youth.
This menace is not exempted from youth in Kano state, in fact just like any other state in
Nigeria, Kano state is not spared of the prevailing moral crises in the contemporary
period. Many of these crises are however, traceable to the new values ushered in as a
result of social media usage by most of the youth who embrace some values and moral
behavior that are in conflict with Islamic and Hausa cultures. However the emergence of
Hisbah as an Islamic institution in Kano state could go a long way in the reduction of
moral decadence in Kano state. Against this backdrop this study is aimed at examining
the Role of Hisbah as an institution for reduction of moral decadence among youth in
Kano state. Metropolis. This is because the purpose of the Hisbah is to protect members of
the society from deviance, preserve their faith, guarantee the welfare and security of the
people and enforce Sharia law. The study adopt content analysis as it methodology. The
finding from this study showcase that, Hisbah's fight against immoral conducts, such as
indecent dressing, clubbing, indecent haircut, street patrol, raids on criminal hideouts,
surveillance, community sensitizations, which contributes to reduction of moral
decadence as well as crime in Kano metropolis. The study recommends that Hisbah as an
institution in the Kano should be statutorily strengthened going by their contributions to
reduction of moral decadence and crime among youth in Kano Metropolis.
