Abstract

significant damage to the global human health and economy. Provision of healthcare
requires funds to be properly budgeted and appropriately utilized. Failure to do that may
harm the provision of health care services. This paper investigated the effect of financial
misconduct in the provision of medical facilities in Kano State Health Care Management
Board from 2011 – 2019. The main objective of this study is to examine the effect of
financial misconduct in provision of medical facilities in two secondary health facilities of
Kano State Health Care Management Board. The study adopted a descriptive survey
research design. The instrument for data collection were questionnaire and interview.
Data were presented and analyzed using frequency and percentage.Hypothesis was
tested using regression analysis. The result showed that financial misconduct in terms of
fraud, misappropriation, diversion of fund, direct stealing, and embezzlement are
frequent in the two health facilities. This negatively undermined the provision of medical
facilities. The study recommended that officers handling financial matters for the
provision of medical facilities in the State should be staff with unquestionable integrity,
trustworthy and self-control. Appropriate disciplinary measures should be taken against
the erring employees.
