EFFECT OF MICRO AND SMALL-SCALE ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT ON YOUTH EMPOWERMENT IN MAIDUGURI METROPOLIS, BORNO STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of micro and small-scale business enterprise development on youth empowerment in Maiduguri, metropolis, Borno state. The sample size of the study comprises of 205 respondents drawn from a population of 500 youths using stratified random sampling. The study used questionnaire as instrument for data collection which was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics with the help of Statistical Packages for Social Sciences SPSS version 25. The findings revealed that Business support services, funds and training offered as empowerment to youths has a significant effect on the performance of small and medium scale enterprises. Based on the findings, the study concluded that micro and small-scale business enterprise development has effect on youth empowerment in Maiduguri, metropolis, Borno state. The study therefore, recommends that government should introduce an enterprise development fund, as this will encourage youths to venture into self-employment.
