GOVERNANCE AND COVID-19 PANDEMIC IN NIGERIA: AN APPRAISAL

Abstract

The world is facing an unprecedented crisis from Corona Virus diseases (COVID-19).
Since it emergence, the virus has spread to every nooks and crannies of the globe through
human-human contact and globalization forces. The study relies on the content analysis of
secondary data drawn from news, situation reports, and ofcial publications of World
Health Organization, journals, seminar papers etc to examine the effect of governance
on COVID-19 pandemic. The paper reveals that the pandemic has caused devastating
implication to the social, political and economic space of humans and states despite
several policies put in place to curb the virus. Consequently, the paper recommend for
stern policies on social protection as a response to combating the virus, mitigate poverty
and inequality, improving access to health care, and cope with socioeconomic shocks.
Finally, Nigeria government should redene vulnerability, collect vulnerable data and
design sustainable social protection policies to forestall against future pandemic crisis
