RETHINKING FLOOD DISASTER AS ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM AND FLOOD RISK MANAGEMENT AS A NATIONAL APPROACH

This study holistically examined flood disaster. Flood occurrences as seen in parts of Nigeria is an environmental problem. Hence, inorder to bring about solution, the study made an exegesis through which people will understand the causes, types, impacts and flood risk management as a coping mechanism. The research adopted human adjustment theory and survey methodology to prosecute the study. It discovered that a number of factors such as social, economic, cultural, political, environmental and geographical contexts in which people live affect their exposure to flood risk.
