EFFECTS OF DATE OF TRANSPLANTING AND INTRA-ROW SPACING ON SOME AGRONOMIC PARAMETERS OF POTATO (Solanum tuberosum L.) ON JOS PLATEAU

Abstract

Field experiment was conducted in 2016 and 2017 rainy season at Bokkos (Lat. 90 180 N, Long .90 52’ E), 4189m amsl with an annual rainfall of 1289.89mm to study the effects of date of transplanting and intra-row spacing on some growth and yield parameters of potato (solanum tuberosum L.) raised from true potato seed (TPS). The experiment was laid out in a split plot design replicated three times. The result revealed that, in 2016 DM accumulation by plants was higher at 60 days after transplanting (DAT) in plant that were transplanted in June and at 30cm intra-row spacing while in 2017, DM accumulation was higher at 60 DAT in plants, that were transplanted in May at 35cm intra-row spacing CGR, LAI and Tuber bulking rate (TBR) were higher and was associated with may transplanting at 35cm intra-row spacing.
