This study investigates the audience perception of social media reports among voting-age residents in Abuja during Nigeria's 2023 presidential elections. The research employed the Social Cognitive Theory and Technological Determinism Theory through a quantitative survey methodology. From 400 questionnaires distributed, 380 valid responses were analysed. The major finding reveals a significant dichotomy in perceptions: while 44% of respondents viewed social media as credible for political engagement, 56% were sceptical about its role in propagating misinformation. The study recommends implementing robust fact-checking mechanisms and enhancing media literacy programs to empower users to discern credible information on social media platforms.
